What type of music is riverside

Coda brings the album to an end, in an acoustic way? So, some hours ago I listened to Riverside for the first time, with their second album Second Life Syndrome.

I gave it a three star rating, I thought it was good, but not incredible by any means. The thing is that I think my final thought about this album is the exact same. So, yes this is a great album, but not incredible.

That obviously makes sense considering it's a debut, and you usually don't find incredible debuts too often. I must say that, while the tracks under ten minutes are pretty average, the opener is truly outstanding and by far my favorite Riverside song. One of my biggest problems with most Riverside epics is that they feel too cohesive! But The Same River manages to build up in emotion and heaviness and I truly love it.

Five star track for sure! The rest, however, is pretty average. It's highly enjoyable of course, and it's not boring in anyway, but after such opener don't expect anything that tops it off. Plus the ballads all sound very similar, mostly because of how cohesive they are. This makes some of the melodies you hear quite forgettable after doing a full listen. So, this is a very good debut. Not excellent, but enjoyable and very listenable. Three Stars. I must say I was incredibly hyped to check this album.

When I recently discovered this site, I noticed there was many prog sub- genres with their own rankings, so I instantly went to the progressive metal section. It made me happy to see that the top two are Dream Theater albums!

But what caught my attention the most was the third place. It was an album I had never heard of before made by a band I had never heard of before.

I pretty much instantly proposed myself to listening it, after all, it was rated almost as high as Metropolis Pt. That's quite the statement. Second Life Syndrome is Riverside's second album, which is impressive since it usually takes bands a couple of albums before they start showing their claws. It was released some time after their apparently very-respect debut 'Out Of Myself' which I will probably listen to very soon.

Bands from Poland aren't very common not only in prog, but in music in general. So it's good to see some bands from there are getting recognition! So, was it masterpiece? Unfortunately, I can't say it was one.

But it was still a very good album! This album sounds like a mixture between Dream Theater, Opeth There's short growl sections here and there and Porcupine Tree. Those are very good bands to get your trademark sound from. And while I can say that the mixture does work, and has some outstanding moments, it's not spectacular.

I actually really wish most tracks specially the ones exceeding the eight minute mark were a little more dynamic. By that I mean that I wish they had a more elaborate structure, like including build-ups or instrumental sections that aren't just a melancholic guitar solo. Despite those tracks mentioned before being a little too iteration-based, they still have amazing and soulful melodies behind them, and instrumentation is flawless all-along the album.

I must say that if you like Porcupine Tree or Dream Theater, you will probably really like this album, so you should give it a try of course. I can understand why it has such a high rating, but it really didn't make me jump from my seat to be honest.

Definitely good, but I wouldn't call it essential. What has not already been written about Riverside, these four boys from the East as brilliant as being uneasy to categorize?

Actually, it is fortunate that this fourth opus, "Anno Domini High Definition" , is not their first album, because we would have been then quite embarrassed to know in which variety of prog this band would be classified. Progressive metal? Something in the sound, at most Heavy prog? Maybe, even if it is very difficult to find so much lyricism in the representative bands of this style.

In fact, when I listen again and again to this magic album, I have more the impression to discover a new album of the Pink Floyd of the great time, something which could be situated between "Meddle" and "Wish you Were Here". In fact, it is enough to attend a Riverside concert once to see that the extreme diversity of their audience, which ranges from seven to seventy-seven years old, makes them a universal band that transcends the usual divides between metalheads and supporters of the classic prog of the 70s.

In my opinion, it deserves to be in the top of the best progressive albums of all time. These five tracks are a pure masterpiece that I can't get enough of.
