The strategy is to hold onto Auriel's Bow and use it against Lord Harkon. The hero should use Auriel's Bow with the Sunhallowed elven arrows on Harkon only.
Because there are only about ten plus or so such arrows, the hero must be conservative and use the arrows only and accurately on Harkon. Harkon will drift very fast from place to place.
The only times when he is stationary are when he is in his globe of healing, or when he is using melee claw attacks on the hero and Serana. Take aim and fire off the sunhallowed elven arrows at such opportunities when Harkon is stationary or near stationary. Watch as Harkon's health decreases dramatically. Eventually, the last burst of sunshine from the sunhallowed arrows will engulf Harkon. He will attempt to fly into his globe of healing and heal up but will do so in vain.
Harkon will then bat teleport in front of the fountain of blood and will disintegrate into a pool of blood and ashes. With the vampire menace under control, it's time to turn to the Dragonborn. Simulation Games. I actually prefer this way of taking him out. Though I've always had a follower, I've dealt mainly melee damage against him in most of my playthroughs. You'll have to deal with a couple of healing cycles, but you'll get him.

You can make her use bow by giving her one like all followers, they use it if they are low on magicka or the bows dps is higher than their weapon. Serana resorts to her long range Magick like Lighting bolt and Ice, which are powerful anyway, though I gave her a Nordic bow, she got it out a few little times.
If your character believes only in using melee type weapons, then why did he haul his ass through the Forgotten Vale to get the Bow in the first place? I know he HAS to do it, for the game's sake of progressing, but how would you factor that in to your RP?
Interested in your reasoning. I have had a lot of experience with Serana, and she will very rarely use a ranged weapon, if at all. She will mainly use magic and occasionally a one handed weapon. Harkon flits all over that room, so if you want to take him out with a melee style then you are in for a long fight.
You should probably try to centre yourself around the fountain where he regenerates. You wont catch him otherwise. Funny x 1. Do enchantments count as magic for him?
You can become a VL again by talking to Serana after you kill Harkon. If you gave him the bow you can still kill him but it will take longer.
I killed him in like 3 hits as a werewolf. It was actually kind of anticlimactic. Soul Tear rips him apart.
